What Equipment to Use?

To coat an irregular surface and achieve a smooth finish quickly, our Beissier expert recommends using a specialized coating that can both fill and finish in one application, eliminating the need for two separate products: Prestonett Garnissant & Finition 2-in-1.

This coating can be applied with a roller for even distribution and fast coverage, making it ideal for large surfaces.

Preparing the Worksite

Before starting, it’s crucial to protect the work area.

• Use “delicate surface” masking tape to avoid peeling off existing paint when removing the tape and to protect areas that don’t need coating.
• Additionally, prepare the surface by sanding it.
• This step is essential to remove the rough texture of the old textured coating.
• Use an orbital sander with a vacuum system to minimize dust.

• After completing the preliminary steps, it’s time to apply the coating with a roller.

Since the goal is to cover a textured coating for a smooth result, a generous amount of material is required.

How to Adjust the Coating Quantity?

For textured surfaces: Load the roller generously to ensure enough coverage.

For already smooth surfaces: Apply a thinner layer to avoid excessive material removal later.

Application technique: Roll from top to bottom and bottom to top for optimal coverage.

Pro Tip from Jeremy: You can dilute the coating up to 3% (about 0.5 litres per 15 kg bucket) to enhance application fluidity.

Smoothing the First Layer

Immediately after rolling, use a coating blade or smoothing knife to:

• Fill in all surface irregularities.
• Even out the relief for a smooth finish.

Important: During the first pass, keep the blade as open as possible to remove excess material and avoid bubbles.

Second Layer for a Flawless Finish

• Let the first coat dry for at least 24 hours.
• Apply a second, thicker layer to fully even out the surface texture.
• As before, use a blade or coating knife, but this time angle the blade more towards the surface to leave more material for optimal smoothing.
• Final Touch: Sanding for a Perfect Surface

Use 180-220 grit sandpaper for a flawless finish.
Remove dust from the surface before painting.
